Death and Mourning Customs during the Victorian Era Thursday October 13th 6:30 p.m.
Today, death is like a somewhat famous distant cousin, often in the news but one we seldom visit. In 19th Century America, death was very close, something that visited early and often an almost constant companion. In addition to hearing about mourning clothing, jewelry, lithographs, hair wreaths, memorial cards, photography, tear bottles, etc, you will have the opportunity to look through the presenter’s personal museum! Vicki Stinson lives in Urbandale, Iowa and has a real passion for the Victorian Era, particularly the Mourning customs. She has been a collector of mourning memorabilia for years and has amassed some interesting artifacts which she’ll display during her hour long presentation. You don’t want to miss this program as it is the first of its kind in the Des Moines area.
